Fitchburg City Hall

Historical Renovation

The full renovation of Fitchburg’s City Hall called for a range of demolition that included the removal of interior finishes, saw cutting, shoring, and crane work.

The long- awaited renovation of previously unoccupiable building included a full floor structure removal with shoring of exterior walls. Unified collaborated with the project team at Bond Brothers to design a strategic shoring plan which attributed to overall project cost efficiencies.

The complete demo of a concrete vault located in the buildings’ basement was a unique part of the demo scope that was skillfully self-performed by Unified’s in-house Brokk and equipment operators.

Our Environmental Division was subcontracted to perform brick restoration, lead paint removal, and asbestos removal from the roofing system and windows of this 167-year-old historic building.

This project was the recipient of the 2021 Preservation Massachusetts Paul & Nikki Tsongas Award and the CMAA New England Project Achievement Award.
